The advantage is saving money and being able to view extra channels while recording them.

How much is Extra View on DStv?
The access fee of R105 is extra above your monthly DStv subscription fee for a package.
- Each decoder you add is R105 per month
What is the installation cost of Extra View for Dstv?
The average cost is about R750 to R1200 for an Extra View installation.

How does Extra View operate? – Extra View Setup
Extra View allows the primary decoder to link to 1 or 2 secondary decoders.
- Dstv package subscription is shared for all decoders
- For each Extra Decoder R105 Access Fee must be paid
- A maximum of 2 secondary decoders can be linked to the primary decoder
Every 1.5 Minutes a heartbeat signal is sent from the primary decoder to the secondary decoder
- Communication cable or Smart LNB sends the Heartbeat Signal
- Use a DStv smart switch for a communal system
The E143 error message appears when there is no heartbeat Signal

- Primary Decoder – Head decoder with the monthly package subscription.
- Secondary Decoder – Extra decoder you add
The DStv channel subscription package is shared between both decoders
- DStv Packages cannot be mixed
- If the subscription is to Dstv Compact, then all decoders can access Compact Channels

Useful Tips & Tricks
- Use smart LNB then no heartbeat cable is needed
- Universal twin LNB requires a Communication cable from the primary decoder to the secondary decoder
- Never turn the primary decoder off otherwise you may receive this error “waiting for communication from the primary decoder“.
